From the time electricity first reached homes and buildings until today, there has been a major development in how electricity use is measured and priced. As the energy system is transformed, there are now completely new demands for smarter price signals, not only from the electricity market but also from the electricity networks.

Contracts for Difference (CfD) have been discussed since the electricity price spikes of 2022. The tool as such is not new, but has been used for a long time in Europe to support new construction of wind and nuclear power. In the debate, there are many interpretations of CfD and sometimes the acronym appears as a panacea, a solution to almost everything.
