Sigholm has recruited energy market expert Niclas Damsgaard. He joins from Svenska kraftnät, where he is Chief Strategist in the Systems Division, and will take up his new post on 11 January 2027.
Niclas Damsgaard has more than two decades’ experience of the Swedish, Nordic and European energy markets. In his current role at Svenska kraftnät, he works on strategic issues relating to the development of the electricity system, the structure of the electricity market and Sweden’s future electricity supply.
He joined Svenska kraftnät in 2017 as Director of Market and System Development. During his time at Svenska kraftnät, he has also been deeply involved in Nordic and European TSO cooperation. Previously, he served as Head of Energy Markets & Strategies at Sweco, a partner at Econ Analysis and a director at Pöyry Management Consulting (now Afry). Throughout his career, he has worked as a consultant, analyst and manager on assignments for companies, public authorities and organisations in Sweden and the rest of Europe. Niclas Damsgaard holds a PhD in Economics from the Stockholm School of Economics. His doctoral thesis deals with the deregulation and regulation of electricity markets.
– Niclas combines in-depth knowledge of the energy market with experience of both strategic leadership and practical change. This combination will be invaluable as we continue to develop solutions that strengthen our clients’ competitiveness and contribute to the energy transition, says Emelie Strandgren, CEO of Sigholm.
Recruitment is taking place at a time when electrification and digitalisation are expected to increase demand for electricity, whilst there is considerable uncertainty surrounding investment and future needs. These developments require investment in electricity generation and the grid, but also greater flexibility and closer collaboration between market players.
– The energy sector is in a very interesting phase. There is a great need for electrification, but the way forward is not set in stone. This creates a clear need for a long-term perspective, well-functioning markets and solutions that combine security of supply, competitiveness and sustainability. I look forward to working with my colleagues at Sigholm to translate my experience into tangible benefits for the energy system, says Niclas Damsgaard.
