Project manager for one of Sweden's largest shipping projects, Port of Västerås

One of Sweden's largest maritime projects

The City of Västerås, the Municipality of Köping and the Swedish Maritime Administration have entered into a strategic partnership under the project name Mälarprojektet. The aim of this collaboration is to open the door to Scandinavia's premier growth region, which is crucial to ensure the development of existing businesses and promote new establishments in the area. In line with this objective, the Port of Västerås is planning to increase its capacity to handle larger volumes of goods and vessels. As part of this expansion, the port will undergo significant upgrades and development at a cost of approximately SEK 1.2 billion.

Sigholm is very committed to the project as it is fully in line with one of the company's key words; “community engagement”. The project has many benefits for both the environment and society.

“For us, it is important to have both personal and social commitment. We care about and want to develop the city we live and work in.”
- Project Manager Isabell Stoor, CEO Sigholm Project.

Sigholm's role in the maritime project

Being a project manager for the Port of Västerås involves an overall responsibility, having responsibility for the entire project portfolio. This is then divided into several different sub-projects such as;

  • organizing, managing, leading and following up the development of the sub-projects
  • ensuring that the review of the projects is carried out according to the specifications
  • preparing tender documents according to LOU
  • environmental inventory
  • permits from the building committee and the County Administrative Board
  • renovation of quays
  • extension of stormwater systems
  • construction of dams
  • level crossing
  • development of a new port layout
  • construction of warehouses, offices, workshops and streets
  • dredging of the harbor basin
  • construction of landscaping areas.

Targeted communication

As the project portfolio consists of so many sub-projects, it therefore involves very many and different stakeholders, suppliers, customers and decision-makers. It is therefore crucial to communicate information tailored to the relevant audience. Communicating tailored to the target group and at the right time is one of Sigholm Project's strengths, we know that it is not possible to be too clear in your communication. That's why we continuously train ourselves on the subject to become even better.

“To deliver a project on time, on budget and on quality, communication, collaboration and leadership are crucial. This is something that is in Sigholm's DNA, which means that we can feel confident about a safe delivery.”
- Christer Gerhardsson, Project Manager Real Estate Unit Västerås City

The region has become a powerful growth engine

With the Port of Västerås development project, the region is taking a big step towards transforming the place into a powerful growth engine. By integrating Sigholm's core values with innovative strategies and targeted communication, we are strengthening our promise of dynamic and sustainable development. We are dedicated to continuously improving our ability to deliver, not only in this project but also in future initiatives. We thrive in contexts where, together with clients, we create significant environmental benefits and bring different stakeholders, such as local communities and politicians, together in large and complex social projects.

Each sub-project, whether it is the expansion of port infrastructure or environmental improvements, is a building block in the vision to create real change and long-lasting value for society.
