This week, we at Aurora by Sigholm (AbS) organised this year’s edition of the AbS MeetUp – a user event where we brought together customers and users of our cloud-based SaaS service to share experiences, insights and perspectives on a rapidly changing energy market.
The event is important to us for exchanging experiences and developing AbS together with our users. As energy systems become increasingly complex, regulatory requirements increase and the need for data-driven control grows, collaboration becomes crucial to creating real value.
- AbS MeetUp is about bringing together those who operate the industry’s most complex facilities in the same room. The experiences shared and the insights gained are what drive improvements both within the companies and in AbS. That is why we do this, says Malin Rosengren, AbS Product Owner.
From control rooms to strategic decisions
This year’s participants represented a variety of roles, from operations technicians to production managers, and companies from both Sweden and Norway. This reflects how AbS is used in practice: as a bridge between operational management and tactical control of complex energy systems.
Through dialogue and the exchange of experiences, issues were raised such as how decision-making can be brought closer to operations and how to navigate increasing complexity without losing control. A common insight was that future competitiveness is not just about access to data, but about the ability to make better decisions, faster.
New this year was an exercise in which participants worked together in different groups on a fictional scenario involving a production facility and various electricity markets, with the aim of developing an optimal trading strategy whilst meeting heating requirements. This was a highly appreciated element that demonstrated the complexity of the interaction between different markets, even on a small scale, and that the need for a well-functioning system support for this purpose quickly becomes valuable.
Study visit to Stockholm Exergi
One of the highlights of the week was the study visit to our client Stockholm Exergi, where participants were given a guided tour of their combined heat and power plant (CHP8) and the CCS (Carbon Capture and Storage) pilot plant.
Stockholm has one of Europe’s most complex energy systems – and is a clear example of how advanced optimisation and data-driven control can be implemented in real-world operations. The visit provided a concrete picture of how theory meets practice, and how AbS is used to create transparency, control and efficiency in a system where every decision counts.
Together, we are shaping the next steps
AbS MeetUp is more than just a user event; it is a platform for collaborative development. By pooling experiences from different markets and roles, we continue to strengthen AbS as a tool for effective real-time decision-making.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all participants and to Stockholm Exergi for their excellent hospitality.
We look forward to continuing to develop AbS together with all our users!
